    《韩非子》(Hán Fēi Zǐ), a book of philosophy authored by 韩非 (Hán Fēi) during the Warring States Period (475 - 220 BC)

  • Story

    In the state of 楚 (Chǔ), a kingdom between the 700's to 223 BC, there lived a man who sold both spears and shields. His shields, he claimed, were so strong that no spear could penetrate them; and his spears were so sharp that no shield would stop them. One day, a bystander asked the man, "What would happen if you used your impenetrable shield against your invincible spear?" The vendor found himself unable to answer.
