  • Story

During the Three Kingdoms Period (三国时期 | sāngúo shíqī | 220 - 280), 孙权 (Sūn Quán), the ruler of the state of 吴 (Wú), wanted to expand his territory, and he called together his officials to discuss the matter. All of his officials agreed with his ideas, with the exception of the official 陆逊 (Lù Xùn). 陆逊 pointed out that the people and the state were exhausted by frequent wars, and he recommended regaining strength before taking any action.

孙权 did not heed his advice, and soon his troops and generals set out for battle. In the end, his men won — but illness spread like wildfire amongst them, and most of them perished, so their gains did not compensate for their losses
