崔琰 (Cuī Yǎn) was a government official who lived during the later days of the Eastern Hàn Dynasty (东汉, 25-220). As a child, he wasn't very fond of studying, and it wasn't until he was 20 years old that he formally found himself a teacher. He then studied extremely hard, and he rose through the ranks to become an advisor to the infamous prime minister 曹操 (Cáo Cāo).
崔琰 had a relative named 崔林 (Cuì Lín). 崔林 didn't accomplish much early in his life, and many of his friends and family looked down upon him. However, 崔琰 regarded him highly and often told others, "Those with great talent need some time to come into their own, so just give 崔林 some time." Sure enough, 崔林 later became an important government official in the kingdom of Wèi Guó (魏国, 220 - 265)
